I Teaching Aims

Knowledge aims:

(1)Students grasp the main topics of the three sections---types of stand-up, a famous comedian and the fact that laughter is good for your health.

(2)Students can learn some useful new words and expressions in this part.

Ability aims:

Students will improve their reading skills and how to use different reading strategies to read different reading materials.

Emotional aims:

(1)Develop students’ sense of group cooperation and team work.

(2)Stimulate students’ interests in learning English.

II Teaching Key &Difficult Points

Key point:

State the main idea of each paragraph in own words.

Know something about Billy Crystal.

Difficult point:

To practice laughter is the best medicine in our daily life

III Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming up(5mins)

(1)Show students some pictures of Mickey mouse, Donald duck, Tom and Jerry, Mr. Bean, and some comedians.

(2). Ask them:

(a). Seeing these pictures, you can’t help laughing. Why? (Possible answers: silly, stupid, strange, funny…)

(b). What can make people laugh? (Possible answers: jokes, comedians, funny movies, humorous stories…)

(3) What are the health benefits of humor and laughter?

(possible answers: reduce stress, lower blood pressure, protect the heart, improve brain functioning, make you feel good……)

Justification:In this way, students’ learning interest will be aroused. And this free talk can make a good preparation for further reading.

Step 2: Pre-reading(5mins)

Teach students some key words to make sure students can read the passage more smoothly..

Justification:It can help them to use predicting skill properly,and learn some new words.

Step 3: While-reading(20mins)

1. Global reading (5mins):

Ask the students to read the text to get the main idea.T: Now please read the text and find the answers to the following questions. Show the questions on the screen. Write down their ideas in one sentence. Then skim the passage and see if they were right. Invite four students to show theirs results.
